The Barca de Oro Project of 11,346 hectares, is situated in a belt of metamorphic rocks that hosts numerous gold occurrences along the trace of the Mojave-Sonora megashear, which trends southeast from south-central California into Northwest Sonora.
The megashear is a left-lateral transform fault which became active during the Jurassic period. Deformation along the megashear occurred along with metamorphism and since the formation of the megashear the area has been subjected to both tectonic compressional and tensional forces (Calmus et al, 1992).
The Mojave-Sonora Megashear includes the “Caborca Gold Belt”, the belt with the most Orogenic Gold potential in Mexico where is located the Herradura Mine, Soledad-Dipolos, Noche Buena, El Chanate, San Francisco; for some authors it includes important silver and gold deposits in Mexico as La Colorada Mine (epithermal gold-silver and orogenic gold). The Mines in the Mojave-Sonora Megashear have a potential of more than 20 million ounces of gold.
The Barca de Oro Project represents a kilometers long shear zone oriented NW-SE and with a width greater than 4 kilometers; includes quartz-feldspar and quartz-feldspar-biotite gneisses, mylonites, two-mica granites (Leucogranites) slightly gneissic, greenschists (albite+chlorite+epidote), amphibolites (hornblende+plagioclase±garnet), pegmatites, ptigmatic folds, isoclinals folds, chevron folds, sigma-type synematic indicators, cataclasites, fault breccias, veining, low-angle reverse faults, as well as faults of normal type, both with dextral-synextral reactivations.
There is evidence of free gold, historical values of 27 g/t Au and 192 g/t silver; orgenic gold mineralization is related to white and gray saccharoid quartz, pyrite, auriferous pyrite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, siderite-ankerite, calcite, sericite, silicification, as well as goethite-hematite and jarosite oxides.
Additional copper mineralization in chalcocite, chalcopyrite, chrysocolla, malachite, azurite with historical value of 3.5%.
